MEET MATT
Matt Blake, 31, is a husband, attorney, Captain in the Iowa Army National Guard and a community volunteer.
A South Dakota native, Matt moved to Des Moines to attend law school at Drake University Law School.
Matt works in government relations for LeadingAge Iowa of Urbandale, where he advocates for older Iowans and aging services providers throughout the state. His wife Alaina is an optometrist with an office in Waukee. They share their Urbandale home with dogs Gus and Henry.
Matt joined the Iowa Army National Guard after graduating from law school. He serves his state as a Judge Advocate (JAG Officer) for Trial Defense Services based at Camp Dodge in Johnston. Matt advises and defends soldiers with legal issues.
MATT'S PRIORITIES
"Urbandale is the place my wife and I chose to make our home because of the safe neighborhoods, great schools, and opportunities for enjoying life. I will be a voice working for all generations of our community. I am committed to listening to your ideas for making our great community even better and being your advocate in city government. That's why I am running for City Council."
Economic Growth
Small business is the backbone of Urbandale’s economy. Creating a business climate focused on development and growth throughout all of Urbandale starts with the City Council. Good jobs are only part of a growth plan. We need to recognize the importance of workforce housing. Everyone deserves access to housing they can afford.
Infrastructure
Urbandale saw record floods that overwhelmed our infrastructure last June and the past winter left our streets plagued with potholes. As a Councilmember I will prioritize investment in roads, sidewalks, parks and trails. Urbandale needs an infrastructure prepared for the future that deals with climate change.
Public Safety
It is essential that Urbandale properly funds law enforcement and fire response. To continue to flourish in a safe community we need first responders who are fairly compensated for their service. I will work to ensure those who risk their lives have the resources to keep our community safe.
